screen door slams behind me,
bare feet sink into grass,
garden tools rest against fence,
day begins to fade;

moths circle the porch lamp,
neighbor’s wind chimes sing,
cat stretches on warm concrete

sprinkler makes rainbow mist,
lightning bugs start their dance,
evening slips in slow;

screen door calls me back,
wet grass between my toes,
dishes wait in kitchen sink,
night arrives like sleep;
