The midnight battle

with eyes half closed
i slowly scan the room
for any signs of activity

lights switched off
the sun still hidden from view
beneath the big black mountains in the horizon
the moon powerless in its fight against the darkness
stuck in one corner of the sky destined to its fate

it had been a long stuggle
a long and hard escape from the vampires of the land
hungry and tired from the day long survival game
i had finally succumbed

with eyes half closed
i slowly scan the room
for any signs of activity

hungry and thirsty
i try to crawl across the room
i try to escape from this “dark dungeon”
where i now lay
in search of food

hungry and exhausted
unable to crawl away from the room
i slowly reach inside the backpack
to quell the pangs of hunger

a high-speed chase
and a constant battle of wits
had left me with very little time (to restock)
had left me with nothing but empty candy wrappers

unable to put up a resistance (anymore)
tiredness and exhaustion taking its toll
i finally give in
i finally fall into darkness once again!

note: One of those classic scenarios, that most of us face regularly. Tired and exhausted after a hard day’s work, you come home and fall asleep asap. Eventually at some point in the night, you wake up hungry. Half asleep and half awake, you search for any leftovers/snacks around you. Finding nothing and tired to get out of bed to “prepare” something, you fall back asleep once again 🙂
