I wrote this poem to show those peaceful times of closeness that often get missed in a long-term relationship. My partner makes regular mornings feel special, and I wanted to keep that feeling in words. This shows how watching them sleep one morning made me see just how much love fills our everyday moments.
your breathing matches the clock’s steady tick,
our sheets hold warmth like summer memories,
the curtains dance with morning’s first light,
time slows to honey in this space;
my coffee grows cold on the windowsill,
your fingers reach for mine beneath warm cotton,
the cat stretches in her patch of sun,
our world shrinks down to just this room;
your sleepy eyes find mine in silence,
the morning light paints shadows on your skin,
each breath draws me closer to your warmth,
our hearts beat soft against the quiet;
my hands trace stories on your shoulders,
the sun climbs higher past our window,
outside the city wakes and moves,
we stay wrapped in our gentle world;
your whispers melt like sugar in my ear,
each touch builds bridges through the morning air,
the day can knock against our door forever,
love holds us safe within this light;
